First Mini Bed Scheme workday a great success

On Sunday 24 September, volunteers helped clear much of Craven Vale plot 47 – home to the Society’s new Mini Bed Scheme – including pulling up masses of brambles, rotten fence posts and weeds, much of which was burnt on a very satisfying bonfire!

Although everyone felt exhausted by the end of the session, it was very encouraging to see so much progress made and the transformation from an overgrown mess, to something more resembling an allotment plot!

Next Workday

Even so, there is still a lot to do, so we will be organizing another workday on Sunday November 5th, from 12pm to continue clearing the plot and to begin the process of laying out the new beds. Come and join us, the more hands the better!

Other ways you can help

Remember, we are also on the look-out for recycled materials we can use on the plot, and for secondhand tools to stock the shed.  So, in particular:

  • paving slabs
  • water butts
  • garden forks/spades
  • hand tools

A plotholder on Craven Vale Allotment since 2010. I'm also one of Site Reps, as well as a member of the CVWHAS committee. I feel very lucky having a plot on such an amazing site - with views across to the South Downs and the sea, it feels like a piece of the countryside within the city.
