Our second Apple Day, held on 11 September, was another great success. Committee members Mary, Roger and Paul worked hard to prepare for the event, including borrowing equipment from the Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation (BHAF) and collecting apples, with permission from the owners of course!

We were so busy we forgot to count how many apples were pressed or bottles produced but everyone went away with at least 1 or 2 litres of delicious juice. Some plot holders came along with their own apples, and in one case pears, and used the smaller equipment lent by Mary to press their own ‘single estate’ juice whilst others were happy to use the ‘scrumped’ apples.

Everyone who came along helped in some way, either cutting up the fruit, scratting the cut apples, turning the presses, sterilizing the bottles or collecting the juice. Special thanks to Mary’s brother in law who was visiting from New Zealand and proved to be an ace apple presser!

We were very pleased that Barney come along to sharpen tools as well. Everyone who came along on the day went away with happy faces. Thanks to everyone who helped but especially to Mary, we couldn’t have done it without her.
